Periodically as part of the program, our Fellows will spend a Saturday morning gaining a deeper perspective of the greater LA area and the ways in which God is at work in the sectors of the city.
On October 10, 2020, members of the 2020-21 class of Framework Fellows toured downtown Los Angeles to get a feel for the rich history of our city.
Below are a few photos from our gathering as participants expressed a deep appreciation for the sometimes overlooked aspects of Los Angeles and its history.
They began at Grand Central Market in downtown Los Angeles, a collection of eateries that have been around since 1917, around the time when DTLA was entering its golden age.
On one end of the market is Broadway street, which previously served as a row of glamorous theaters and hotels that crowds flocked to every night.
The Fellows observed the string of miscellaneous retail shops that now operate out of the mostly-deteriorating buildings while hearing about DTLA’s trends of growth, decline, faith revivals, and the current trend of redevelopment.
Their tour closed with a trip up Angel’s Flight, the short railway up Bunker Hill, to gaze out over the city and reflect on its history and future.
