Advent is the season leading up to the birth of Christ. During this season Christians are called to enter a posture of hopeful anticipation as they re-enter the long-expected arrival of the Messiah. This is a season of hope—a season where we experience the power of anticipation. But Advent is not unique to the Christmas season. And hope is not merely a driver for religious people. The truth is, we are all narrative creatures living with desired outcomes (“hopes”) and, whether we see it or not, these hopes are the engines that drive our lives.

Robert will be serving as our new Director of Vocational Discipleship and Iris as our new Administrative Assistant. Lately, I’ve experienced an especially busy and stressful season at work and at home. After 18 difficult months, I’ve noticed that on top of the physical and emotional exhaustion, I am—as I’m sure many others are as well—making more mistakes, more forgetful, and finding myself increasingly challenged to stay mindful of all the good God has given amidst these hard times.
Continuing to heal and move forward toward a “new normal” begs for grace at home, at church, and at work. The posture in Scripture that Jesus displayed in the face of heavy burdens and trouble is surprisingly that of gentleness.
